The Philadelphia Saint Patrick's Day parade scheduled for this Sunday, March 15th, has been CANCELED due to concerns from coronavirus COVID-19. This afternoon, 3/10, city heath officials announced the first presumptive positive case of the disease in the city limits. Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley recommended that people avoid gatherings of more than 5,000 people and stay home. He said that at the time that they were not going to cancel any of those events, which would include sports, concerts, etc. and mentioned the parade specifically. He suggested that you should watch from home. Parade officials reconsidered that recommendation, at least for the parade, and announced that it will be canceled outright for this year.

The Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Observance Association issued a statement, "After heartfelt consideration and serious conversation with officials from the City of Philadelphia, the St. Patrick's Day Observance Association has decided to cancel the parade and all events related to the 2020 Philadelphia Saint Patrick's Day Parade. This decision was made with significant input from civic and parade participants. While this decision is disappointing, we acted with a general concern for the well-being of everyone. In days to come, we will continue with great enthusiasm to plan the 250th Saint Patrick's Day Parade on March 14, 2021 celebrating Saint Patrick, our Grand Marshal Michael J. Bradley, Jr., and the distinguished members of the Ring of Honor."
