Ocean City, NJ, Boardwalk/Beaches Closed; PA Primary Moving to June 2; Valley Forge Park Closed

The mayor of Ocean City, New Jersey, has closed the boardwalk and the beaches until further notice due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak. The order is meant to further emphasize social distancing and the Governor's 'stay-at-home' order.

This is Mayor Jay A. Gillian statement:

"The boardwalk and all beaches in Ocean City are closed effective immediately. An administrative order issued by the state last night gives municipalities the discretion to impose restrictions to local beaches and boardwalks.

I want to take every measure I can to protect the community. We have a large senior population, and it's of utmost importance to take their well-being into consideration.

Even with all the directives already in place, it's clear that not everybody is taking the order to shelter in place seriously. With the weather getting warmer, it will only get worse. I fully understand the impact that this will have on Ocean City, but I will always err on the side of caution. Thank you for your understanding.

Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian Mayor"

Both the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Senate passed a bill on Wednesday, 3/25, to delay the state's presidential primary. The primary originally scheduled for April 28 would be moved to June 2. Governor Tom Wolf still needs to sign the legislation. Earlier this year, legislation was passed allowing voters in Pennsylvania to cast ballots by mail without having to provide a reason. You can apply for a mail-in ballot and get more election information at: http://votespa.com.

Valley Forge National Historical Park is now closed until further notice. That includes all roads, parking lots, trails, and open spaces. "We have made this difficult decision in order to better protect visitors, park employees and the resources that make this place special. This is a serious crisis and we urge all visitors to understand this." The park says that illegally parked cars will be ticketed and cars that block emergency vehicle access will be towed. They posted pictures of cars illegally parked on their facebook page.
