Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal, New Jersey State Police Superintendent Patrick J. Callahan, and Salem County Prosecutor John T. Lenahan announced charges against 8 individuals in connection with the shooting of a New Jersey State trooper and a home invasion in Salem County over the weekend. 21-year-old Najzeir Hutchings is charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault on a police officer, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the shooting of New Jersey State Police Detective Richard Hershey. It happened around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, 4/26, at the Harding Woods Mobile Home Park on Harding Highway in Pittsgrove Township. Hershey was investigating a home invasion that occurred around 6:15 p.m. A group of cars pulled up and several individuals exited the vehicles. Hershey identified himself as law enforcement officer. Hutchings opened fire and struck Hershey in the leg. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital and is recovery. 19-year-old Kareen Warner Jr. and 18-year-old Colby Opperman were charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. 32-year-old Jazmin Valentin, 43-year-old Yomari Lazu, 22-year-old Iramari Lazu, 52-year-old Mayra Roblero, and 39-year-old Maria Betancourt were arrested in relation to the home invasion. They are charged with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary, and conspiracy to commit burglary.

The City of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, has removed benches citywide, including the boardwalk, bandstand, and Rehobeth Ave., to discourage people from gathering and violating social distancing guidelines. The city says "by removing access to benches that invite multiple touches and close personal contact, we are in a better position to combat the spread of COVID-19." The beach and boardwalk have been closed since late March. The city says it will return the benches when the state's emergency order is lifted. That order is currently set to expire on May 15th, but city officials believe that it will get extended beyond that date.

The Delaware State Fair is still scheduled to go on this summer, but the accompanying concert series has been canceled due to coronavirus COVID-19 concerns. "One aspect of the Fair recently determined to be impossible to include in this year's event involves the ticketed concerts in the M&T Bank Grandstand and the Quillen Arena's Q-Series," organizers said Tuesday. "After all options were weighed, we made the difficult decision to cancel the Q-Series concert in June and all the M&T Bank Grandstand concerts and shows scheduled during this year's Fair." If you purchased a ticket to one of the concerts through the Fair you will received an automatic refund by May 29. If you purchased a ticket somewhere else, you must try and go through them. Organizers are planning to hold the fair July 31-August 1, however, there will probably be changes to the format to follow all safety guidelines. "We are committed to delivering a Fair of some kind in late July, within the parameters of what Delaware Governor John Carney and public health officials consider to be safe," organizers said.
