Teen Hero Gives Life to Save Women At Shore; Protest After Allentown Police Vid; DE on PA Quarantine

An 18-year-old recent high school graduate is being called a 'hero' after saving two women caught in the rough surf in Ventnor, NJ on Friday evening, 7/10. Jalan Alston of Brooklyn, NY was visiting the shore with a few friends to celebrate their graduation from George Westinghouse High School. Alston saw the two women struggling in the choppy water due to Tropical Storm Fay. He was able to push the two to shore, but he never resurfaced. The Coast Guard, Ventnor Police and lifeguards, and other neighboring authorities launched a search. His body was found on a beach in Atlantic City on Saturday night. "Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Jalan," said Capt. Jonathan Theel, commander of Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. "It's always difficult to suspend a case and it weighs especially heavy on our hearts knowing that he was helping others."

A video posted on social media on Saturday, 7/11, prompted protests in Allentown, Lehigh County. The video, shot by a man driving by, shows three Allentown officers restrain a man as they try and take him into custody outside St. Luke's Sacred Heart Hospital. It appears a nurse is also standing by. At one point it looks like one officer's knee/shin is placed on the back on the suspect's head or neck. The details surrounding the arrest are not known. Protesters took to the streets outside the police department and city hall. Allentown Police recently released their use of force policy.

Pennsylvania state health officials added Delaware, Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma to the state's 14-day quarantine travel advisory. Anyone traveling from or returning to Pennsylvania from those states must self-quarantine for 14-days. That means you must stay in your home, hotel, or other lodging for the duration. You can leave to get essential supplies, medical attention, and food. There is an exception if you are only traveling through the state and/or making a rest stop, or lay over at a station or airport. The other states on the list include: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.
