The Philadelphia Housing Authority has extended its eviction moratorium until March 15, 2021. The PHA said it does not want housing to a be a concern for the 80,000 low-income families 'disproportionately affected' by the pandemic. The moratorium applies to non-payment of rent or related fees and not evictions related to health and safety. "The federal eviction moratorium expires this week. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has extended it to the end of August, while the Congress and the Trump Administration debate another extension. I wanted to take bold action in this regard, to maintain housing stability for our residents," PHA President Kelvin Jeremiah said. It does not forgive tenants' rent, you are still responsible for paying. If you are having trouble paying your rent you should apply for the PHA Hardship Waiver.

Philadelphia NAACP President Rodney Muhammad responded to several calls for his resignation after posting an anti-Semitic meme to his Facebook page with a statement on Thursday morning, 7/30. He said, "Last Thursday I learned of an image posted on my timeline that bared significant offense to the Jewish community," Muhammad said. "After learning of its significance I immediately of my own volition removed it."

"I do regret the insult, pain and offense it caused to all particularly those of the Jewish community by this unfortunate episode... I am not nor are any of our members anti-Semitic."
