Democratic presidential candidate and presumptive nominee Joe Biden announced his pick for vice presidential running mate on Tuesday afternoon, 8/11. The former Vice President chose California Senator Kamala Harris. 55-year-old Harris is a first-term Senator who was a former rival of Biden's during the Democratic presidential primary. They faced up at a few of last year's debates. Harris was previously the Attorney General of California and the District Attorney of San Fransisco. Her record as a prosecutor is a mix of 'progressive' and 'tough on crime.' Harris is the third woman to appear as a running mate on a major party ticket. The other two include Democrat Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 and Republican Sarah Palin in 2008. She is the first woman of color on a major party ticket. Her father is Jamaican and her mother is of Indian decent. Biden and Harris will make an appearance in Wilmington, DE on Wednesday.

The Bellmawr Borough Council voted 5-1 on Tuesday, 8/11, to revoke the business license of Atilis Gym. Co-owners 33-year-old Ian Smith and 51-year-old Frank Trumbetti vowed to stay open despite losing their license. The gym opened its doors back in May in defiance of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s orders against gyms reopening. Since then the owners have been cited, fined, summonsed, found in contempt, and arrested. They have taken the state to court challenging the constitutionality of the executive orders. The gym does have safety and social distancing protocols in place for members using the facility.

The University of Pennsylvania has decided to reverse course on having students return and live on its University City campus this fall. The university is instead telling undergraduate students not to return to Philadelphia and participate in their classes online from home. There will be a limited number of housing exemptions for international students or other hardships. Most courses will be online except some types of classes such as clinical experiences in Nursing or others requiring hands on instruction. There will also be no on-campus activities this fall semester. The school says that there will be a 3.9% discount in tuition. Housing and dining fees already paid will be refunded or credited.
