Man Wanted For Shooting at Philly Police Surrenders; Deadly Parkway Crash; Woman Crashes into Home

A man wanted for the attempted murder of three plainclothes Philadelphia police officers has turned himself in to authorities. 28-year-old Jeffione Thomas surrendered with his attorney on Friday, 9/25. The shooting happened last Friday, 9/18, on the 1400 block of Sharpnack Street in the Cedarbrook neighborhood. The three officers were riding in an unmarked vehicle. Thomas was riding slowly next to them on a bicycle. An officer rolled down the window and asked him if he was ok. That's when Thomas pulled out a gun and fired at the vehicle. The officers pulled off and returned fire. Another man down the street also opened fire on the officers. The driver was shot in the back by a bullet that went through the car and his seat. It was stopped by his vest. Another officer was cut in the leg. They were both treated at Einstein Medical Center. Investigators are still trying to identify the second shooter.

A 20-year-old man was killed in a car crash near 20th and Benjamin Franklin Parkway early Friday morning, 9/25. Police say that the man was driving a black Jetta at high speeds on Vine Street. He swerved to avoid traffic cones set up to block the outer lanes of the Parkway because of the nearby homeless encampment. He lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median, and crashed into a tree and a pole on the other side of the street. Officials do not yet know the identity of the driver. Three other women in the car were injured, one seriously. Two other cars were following the Jetta and stopped at the crash, they all knew each other. Police say that it wasn't necessarily a drag race, but they were driving carelessly. Mark Overwise, captain of the accident investigation district, said, "Perhaps a little careless driving, but I would not categorize it as street race at this point." He added, "My understanding is the cones are there because of the encampment, but I don't know who put them there."

A woman was critically injured after crashing into a home in Bucks County early Saturday morning, 9/26. It happened around 3 a.m. on the 6000 block of Bristol Emilie Road in Bristol Township. The car first crashed into the side of the house leaving a huge hole. It then struck a flatbed in the driveway and came to rest at the neighboring home. The woman was ejected from the vehicle. She was hospitalized in critical condition. The home suffered extensive damage. A man and his dog were inside at the time, but were not injured. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
