The City of Philadelphia, Mayor Jim Kenney, District Attorney Larry Krasner, and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw held a press conference on Wednesday evening, 11/4, announcing the release of 911 recording and police body camera footage from the fatal police shooting of Walter Wallace Jr. This the the first time body cam footage has been released by Philadelphia Police. The video below contains 911 calls, police radio transmissions, and the police body cam footage.

The incident happened on Monday afternoon, 10/26, on the 6100 block of Locust Street in West Philadelphia. Officers responded to the scene and encountered Wallace holding a knife. The confrontation was recorded on a cell phone by a witness and has been seen widely on social media. The two responding officers could be seen telling Wallace to put the knife down several times. His mother also pleaded with him to stop and with the officers not to shoot. Family members could be heard screaming that he was "mental." Wallace did not follow the commands and kept walking towards the officers while holding the knife. They both opened fire and shot 14 times. The officers were not equipped with non-lethal options such as a Taser. The exact number of times that Wallace was hit has not been released.

The shooting led to several days of protest, but also rioting and looting throughout the city. Protests are happening in the city tonight. The officers have been identified as 25-year-old P/O Sean Matarazzo and 26-year-old P/O Thomas Munz both of the 18th District. The family of Walter Wallace Jr. was consulted about the release of the videos and wanted to have the public see them. The videos were edited according to family wishes.
