The Montgomery County District Attorney's office announced the arrest of a Philadelphia man for purchasing and trafficking guns in Southeastern Pennsylvania. 21-year-old Daniel Lucas is charged with multiple felony counts of corrupt organizations, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, unlawful transfer of a firearm, and other related offenses. District Attorney Kevin Steel said that Lucas had a clean background and began buying weapons for others who could not legally purchase a gun. The Brad Fox law requires a 5-year minimum sentence for so-called straw purchases. Between July 7 to Sept. 28, 2020, Lucas bought 36 guns in 8 counties. He also attempted to buy three more. Those counties include Lancaster (13), Bucks (9), Chester (5), Montgomery (4), Delaware (2), Berks (1), Philadelphia (1) and Schuylkill (1). Authorities have only recovered one of the weapons. It was in the possession of two people under the legal age to buy a gun, one of them was a minor. His bail is set at $1 million.

"In 77 days, this defendant was buying and selling as many firearms as he could and traveling great distances from his Philadelphia residence to multiple gun dealers in multiple counties to do it-and then reselling the guns to people who cannot legally buy firearms for themselves. There are laws about who can and can't buy guns and those laws are in place to protect us all. Purchasing guns and illegally selling them makes us all less safe," said Steel.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a 39-year-old woman who was 9-months pregnant was shot in Kensington on Wednesday night, 11/11. It happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 1800 block of East Atlantic Street. The woman and her husband were standing in the open doorway to their home when they heard gunfire. She was struck once in the abdomen. The woman was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. The baby was born alive after an emergency C-section. The mother is expected to be ok. Authorities are trying to determine what happened, possibly stray gunfire. Anyone with information should call police at 215-686-TIPS.

Philadelphia Police are investigating the shooting of two teenagers on a basketball court in South Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, 11/10. It happened around 4:30 p.m. on the Hawthorne basketball court at 12th and Carpenter Streets. An 18-year-old male was shot in the left side. He is in stable condition. A 14-year-old male was shot in the head. He is in critical condition. "Fortunately, the entire incident was captured on private surveillance cameras very clearly and it was viewed by South Detectives and you see a male exit the back seat of a white SUV-type vehicle. That male's wearing all dark-colored clothing, including a mask," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The shooter then fled in the same vehicle. If you have any information, call police at 215-686-TIPS.

Philadelphia Phillies Catcher J.T. Realmuto rejected the team's qualifying offer of $18.9 million as expected. He is now free to sign anywhere. The Phillies will receive draft pick compensation if he signs with another team. Realmuto is considered one of the best catchers in baseball and the Phillies front office will hear it if they do not resign him. COVID's uncertainty and its effect on future revenues could play into what teams are willing to spend on top talent.
