Trout season opens on Saturday, April 14th. Anglers across the area will be headed into area woodlands and along waterways. Combined with increased public traffic enjoying state park lands with the nice spring weather, we could have a recipe for fire disaster from human carelessness. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources issued a warning today. The fire danger is still very high due to dry forest conditions, low humidity, and winds. One small mistake could set off a very large wildfire. Please refrain from setting open fires until the danger is lowered.

Pat Burrell will officially retire as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. Burrell spent nine major league seasons with the Phillies hitting 251 HR's, 827 RBI's, and 518 extra base hits in the red pinstripes. His last season in Philadelphia was as a World Series champion in 2008 before spending time in Tampa Bay and San Francisco. Burrell, 35, will sign a one-day minor league contract with the Phils. He will be honored before the game on May 19th against the Red Sox, throwing out the first pitch.

Today at the Pentagon Air Force Capt. Barry Crawford of Springfield, Delaware County, received the Air Force Cross for his "extraordinary heroism." Two years ago in Afghanistan, Crawford abandoned cover to establish a makeshift helicopter landing to medivac the wounded from a 10 hour long battle. The Cross is second only to the Medal of Honor and has only been award 12 times since 1975. Capt. Crawford attended St. Andrew's School in Drexel Hill and Monsignor Bonner High School. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2003.

Partly cloudy for most of the evening, with temperatures in the low 50's, clearing overnight with a low of 41 in Philadelphia.
