Mother Charged With Abuse of 9yo Daughter; Federal Court Denies Trump Appeal; Teen Found Dead in NJ

A Chester County mother has been arrested for abusing her 9-year-old daughter along with her boyfriend who was arrested earlier this week. 31-year-old Julianne Lewis of West Chester is charged with Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping a Minor, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, False Imprisonment, Conspiracy and related charges. On Monday, 11/23, her boyfriend 34-year-old Dimitrios Mocharis was arrested and charged with Attempted Homicide and other charges. Lewis' 9-year-old daughter was found unconscious, wet, and clothed in a bathtub when she was home alone with Mocharis. Medics noticed she had significant bruising on her body both old and new. She was taken to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington and is in critical condition. Officials say she "likely has brain damage due to oxygen deprivation for an extended period of time," indicating strangulation or suffocation.

Lewis and Moscharis had been dating for two months. Mocharis would use a curtain rod to hit the girl for discipline over minor issues. They locked her in a closet without food, water, and use of the bathroom for 15 hours. She was made to walk up and down the stairs for hours and she had to sleep on the concrete basement floor at times. Lewis watched and did not stop any of the abuse by her boyfriend. "It is incomprehensible that a mother would not only engage in this horrific treatment of her child but also fail to intervene to protect her from abuse from a man she just met," said Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan. They were both remanded to Chester County Prison without bond.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia rejected an appeal from the Trump campaign on Friday afternoon, 11/27, of a lower court's ruling from last Saturday, 11/21. The lawsuit sought to prevent the certification of Pennsylvania's election results. "Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here," Judge Stephanos Bibas wrote for the three-judge panel.

Rudy Guiliani, Trump's lawyer, personally argued in court last week. U.S. District Court Judge Matthew Braun dismissed the case then saying, "One might expect that when seeking such a startling outcome, a plaintiff would come formidably armed with compelling legal arguments and factual proof of rampant corruption," he wrote in his 37-page opinion. "Instead, this court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations unsupported by the evidence." The three judges of the appellate court were appointed by Republican presidents. Bibas was appointed by Donald Trump. "Voters, not lawyers, choose the president. Ballots, not briefs, decide elections," Bibas said in the opinion. Trump's lawyers say they'll appeal to the Supreme Court.
