76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and Philly rapper Meek Mill have created a $2 million scholarship fund to help underserved K-12 children in Philadelphia. The fund will provide immediate help for almost 1,000 kids from low income families during this 2020-21 academic year. The selected students will have all tuition and other costs covered to attend private and parochial schools throughout the city. They'll also provide technology for e-learning including laptops, tablets, and WiFi connection.

This past spring, Rubin started the All-In Challenge that had sports figures and celebrities donate one-of-a-kind experiences for auction. It raised close to $60 million for food charities. Meek Mill donated his 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom to the auction. Mill and Rubin are also co-chairs of the Reform Alliance. Rubin, billionaire owner of Fanatics sports apparel, has also been in the news this week for some notable business transactions. He sold online-shopping platform ShopRunner and bought logo gear manufacturer WinCraft.

The City of Philadelphia agreed to develop tiny-house villages as part of the agreement to close the homeless protest encampment on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The city has selected two locations for the pilot program; 4917 Aspen St. in West Philadelphia and 8201 State Road in Northeast Philadelphia. The Aspen St. site will have permanent housing for 24 people in twelve 400 sq ft. two-bedroom tiny homes. The homes will have utilities, bathrooms, and kitchens. The State Road site be be a transitional facility with 12-24 single room units. Units will be 120 sq ft and have electricity, but not water or bathrooms. There will be a central kitchen and a building with bathrooms, showers, and laundry. Proposals to construct and run the sites are due next month. The projects are expected to be completed next summer.

Two adults are dead and a teenager is critically injured after a row house fire in West Oak Lane early Saturday morning, 12/12. It happened around 4:30 a.m. on the 6700 block of North 17th Street. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and flames coming from the first floors of the home and quickly went to work on the fire. They put up ladders to reach the second floor and were able to pull out three people. A 64-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 74-year-old man was taken to Einstein Medical Center and pronounced dead a short time later. A 17-year-old girl was taken to Einstein and then transferred to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. The fire was brought under control at 5:10 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
