Delaware's ban on single use plastic bags goes into effect this Friday, January 1, 2021. Shoppers will no longer have the option of using plastic bags at the checkout of stores larger than 7,000 sq ft. The ban also includes businesses with three or more smaller locations with at least 3,000 sq ft. Philadelphia also passed a ban on single use plastic bags, but the new year start date was moved to October 1 due to the pandemic.

Authorities in Chester County are investigating the shooting death of a man inside his Phoenixville home. Police went to the residence on the 400 block of Dayton Street around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, 12/29. They found 73-year-old Ira Solomon in the kitchen. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan, they discovered two spent 9mm shell casings and miniature bat. The back door was unlocked. Anyone with information on this case should contact Phoenixville Detectives at 610-933-1180 x815 or Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.
