Jamie Moyer Becomes Oldest MLB Pitcher to Record a Win

Former Phillie, Souderton, PA native, and St. Joe's alum, Jamie Moyer, entered the record books tonight. Defying all the odds, Moyer, 49, has become the oldest pitcher to ever record a win in Major League Baseball. Born November 18, 1962, he is now 49 and 150 days on Tuesday. Brooklyn's Jack Quinn was 49 and 70 days old when he won on Sept. 13, 1932.

It is an amazing fete that Jamie was able to make the Colorado Rockies rotation. Moyer's Philadelphia contract expired at the end of the 2010 season and he had to sit out the entire 2011 season after having Tommy John surgery to repair an injury to his elbow. Colorado signed him to a minor league contract and invited him to Spring Training this year. The soft-tossing lefty earned himself the number two spot on the Rockies rotation after a tremendous spring.

Jamie Moyer has pitched in four different decades. He's played for 9 different clubs. He has 268 career wins. His first win came in his first start, June 16, 1986, for the Chicago Cubs vs. the Philadelphia Phillies who had another lefty on the mound by the name of Steve Carlton.

Tonight, his line was 7 innings, 2 runs, 6 hits, 1 SO, 2 BB. Pretty solid outing. This won't be his last win of the year, each one will be a new record. It all comes from a pitcher who never tops 80 mph, but always puts the pitch in the right place.

Rockies: 5 Padres: 3

Congrats Jamie!
