Incumbent Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner defeated challenger Carlos Vega in the primary election Tuesday, 5/18, by a 2-to-1 margin. Philadelphia's 7-1 democratic supermajority almost guarantees that Krasner will win the general election in the fall when he goes against Republican Charles Peruto. Krasner declared victory on Tuesday night in front of supporters in Center City. He ran on his record of cash bail reform, overturning convictions, and the promise of criminal justice reform. His critics, including Vega, have pointed at the city's record homicide and shooting rates. Vega had said that criminal justice reform does not have to come at the expense of safety. In his victory speech, Krasner said his second term starts now. He has four and a half more years to further his progressive movement.

"Four years ago, we promised reform and a focus on serious crime. People believed what were at that point ideas, promises, and they voted us into office with a mandate. We kept those promises. People saw what we did, and this time, they re-elected us put us back into office again for what we have done. Not ideas, not promises, but realities," Krasner said.

"Tonight, I would like to thank the army of supporters my campaign has generated, despite being outspent significantly by my opponent, and despite receiving no establishment or celebrity support," Vega said. "My campaign was first and foremost about lifting up the voice of victims who have been forgotten by the current Administration. I hope they were heard.

"I ran for District Attorney to give victims a voice. I feel that D.A. Krasner has not lived up to the promises that he originally ran on, and that the spike in gun violence we are experiencing is not being taken seriously. Even though we came up short, tens of thousands of Philadelphians agree."

Three men who were involved in a fight survived an eight story fall through an elevator shaft at an apartment complex in King of Prussia on Monday night, 5/17. It happened around 9:45 p.m. at the South Building of the 251 DeKalb Apartments. The men were fighting on the 8th floor of the building when they crashed into and through the closed elevator doors in the hall way. "The steel elevator door, when you push the button the door opens, they broke through that door and there was no elevator there so they just fell eight floors to the bottom," said Upper Merion Police Lt. Al Elverson. The men fell through the shaft with the doors and landed on top of the elevator car which was sitting on the first floor. Two of the men crashed through the roof and landed in the car. The third man landed on the roof of the car. Rescuers reached the two men through the first floor and the third man from the second floor. Two men were taken to Paoli Hospital. One man suffered a broken leg and was airlifted to the trauma center at Penn Presbyterian Hospital. Montgomery County Detectives and Upper Merion Police are investigating.

A Delaware woman is accused of stealing her neighbor's therapy dog and leaving it on the side of the road in New Jersey. 63-year-old Cynthia Yalisove is charged with felony theft of $1500 or greater in Delaware and animal cruelty in New Jersey. It happened on April 5 on the 400 block of Dogwood Drive in Hockessin. The 6-month-old Pyredoodle named Rip went missing from the victim's home. They posted missing information all over social media. The next day, people from Pennsville, New Jersey, say they found the dog on the side of the road. The Good Samaritans say that they saw a black Chevy SUV with a Delaware plate leave the dog and drive off. Investigators were led to Yalisove who lives behind the victims. She was arrested on Friday and arraigned. She was released on her own recognizance.
