New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Monday, June 28, that masks will not be mandatory for students in school buildings come this fall, "absent any dramatic change in our situation before the beginning of the school year." Individual school districts will still be able to implement their own policy. Students will still have to wear masks on school buses. Murphy previously announced that all schools will be returning to full-time, in-person learning.

A 23-year-old man drowned at a swimming hole along the Great Egg Harbor River in Atlantic County, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon, 6/27. It happened around 2:30 p.m. at Weymouth Furnace park in Hamilton Township. Rescue teams and divers searched for two hours before pulling the man from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Although the spot is popular, swimming or standing in the water is prohibited. A sign is posted warning swimmers of the danger. Kayaking and tubing is allowed on the river. The man's identity has not been released.

A tractor-trailer carrying a load of deli meat caught fire on the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) on Monday morning, 6/27. It happened around 3:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Conshohocken Curve. The highway was closed between the Blue Route (I-476) to Belmont Ave. The westbound lanes remained open. The wreck was cleared and lanes reopened around 11:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.
