New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced that he will be leaving his post for a position in the federal government. He will leave on July 26 and will become the director of the SEC's enforcement division. Grewel became the first Sikh-American Attorney General in the county when he took office in January 2018. "The Enforcement Division has a critical role to play in finding and punishing violations of the law," Grewal said in a statement. "I'm excited to get to work with the talented team of public servants to uncover and prosecute misconduct and protect investor." Governor Phil Murphy will name a successor to serve the rest of Grewel's term.

An Allentown councilperson and former mayoral candidate has been charged with child endangerment after she left a runaway teenager seeking help at a homeless encampment last year. 35-year-old City Councilwoman Cecilia "Ce Ce" Gerlach is charged with endangering the welfare of children and failing to report suspected child abuse. She was arraigned on Tuesday, 6/29, and released.

Last July 2020, a 16-year-old boy called a hotline for Synergy Project, which is run by Valley Youth House, after he ran away from home. Gerlach was on duty and took the call. "Gerlach provided the teen with a tent and other supplies and walked him to the homeless tent encampment known as 'Tent City' located at that time along Basin Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard in Allentown," Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said in a statement. "The teen said Gerlach made contact with a resident in the homeless encampment and asked that he 'take care' of the teen while the teen was there." The teen was left there for parts of two days and a night. A second unrelated caseworker saw the teen at the encampment the next day and intervened. The boy told police he was solicited for sex and saw prostitution and fighting. Gerlach had also failed to report the boy to the state's ChildLine abuse reporting system and notify police or child welfare authorities.

Radnor School District in Delaware County has decided to change their mascot and nickname to the Raptors. The school board had made the decision last year to get rid of the previous mascot because of the Native American imagery. The historic Raiders nickname was also removed, but many in the school community wanted to keep the name because it wasn't necessarily tied to the controversial images. The schools have been using the name for more than 70 years.
