The School District of Philadelphia began it's three week long 'Back-to-School Bus Tour' on Monday, 8/9. The tour will make 31 stops around the city between August 9 - 27 at rec centers, schools, ShopRites, parks, playgrounds, and churches. "We are traveling from neighborhood to neighborhood across the city of Philadelphia to engage the city and welcome back as many students and families as we can," says Superintendent Dr. William Hite. The "Tour will bring critical information and services that our students/families need to prepare for a successful return to in-person learning right into their neighborhoods." You can get back-to-school information, free backpacks and supplies, register students, get required immunizations, and more. Check out the dates and locations at the link below.

Three men were injured and cars and homes were riddled with bullet holes after a shooting on a Center City street late Sunday night, 8/8. It happened around 10:45 p.m. on the 400 block of South 13th Street between Pine and Lombard Streets in Washington Square West. Neighbors say they heard a barrage of gunfire, about 30 rounds, ring out. Police arrived to find shell casings all over the street and bullet holes in vehicles and buildings. The three male victims, ages 19-20, had left the scene. One man got on a SEPTA bus. He eventually was admitted to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. The other two men walked four blocks to Jefferson University Hospital. They are all in stable condition. No weapon was recovered and there have been no arrests. Police have not said what led up to the shooting, but it may be connected to something happening at an Airbnb rental on the block.

Every county in New Jersey is now listed as having either "high" or "substantial" levels of coronavirus CODID-19. The CDC recommends that all people wear a mask indoors in areas with those two levels of transmission. "This is a pandemic of unvaccinated persons," Gov. Phil Murphy said. The best way to fight against the virus is to get the vaccine. Everyone age 12 and older is eligible to receive it. The five-county Philadelphia area in Pennsylvania is also listed in the "substantial" transmission level.
