Attempted Shooting at Delco Bowling Alley; 10th Tornado Confirmed; Stolen St. Rita Statue Found

Police are searching for a suspect following a domestic argument and attempted shooting in Delaware County on Friday night, 8/13. It happened around 10:30 p.m. outside Wynnewood Lanes on the 2200 block of Haverford Road in Haverford Township. A man and a women got into an argument over the custody of their 8-year-old daughter. The child was not present. The man pulled out a gun and tried to shoot his ex at point blank range. However, the gun misfired and the woman was not struck. However, she was burned on the shoulder. The man left before police arrived. The investigation is ongoing.

The National Weather Service Mount Holly/Philadelphia has confirmed a 10th tornado touchdown during last month's outbreak in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This tornado hit a remote, wooded area of Jackson Township, NJ. It was rated EF-0 with wind speeds of 80 mph. The outbreak happened on the evening of July 29th. The 10 tornados ranged from EF-0 to EF-3. The largest had winds of 140 mph and struck Trevose/Bensalem in Bucks County, PA, causing extensive damage.

The statue of St. Rita of Cascia that had been stolen from its grotto in front of the national shrine in South Philadelphia has been recovered. The statue was found on Saturday, 8/14, abandoned on Webster Street near 16th, and turned over to police. The National Shrine of St. Rita of Cascia is located at 1166 S. Broad Street. It was noticed missing from its case around 11:30 a.m. Friday, 8/13. The glass door and the padlock were not damaged. It is not known who or why it was taken. Police say it is 4 ½ to 5 feet tall and weighs 100 lbs. The shrine saus, "Assuming no major damage has been done, our intention is to clean the statue, repair the lock, and return Saint Rita to the grotto as soon as possible."

Upper Providence Little League (Oaks, PA) defeated Toms River East, NJ 10 - 3 on Saturday, 8/14 to win the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. Both teams will be headed to the 16-team Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA
