A New York man was beaten and killed in a fight outside of Pat's King of Steaks early Thursday morning, 9/16. It happened around 2 a.m. at the iconic cheesesteak shop located at 9th and Passyunk. 28-year-old Isidro Cortez of Queens had attended the Philadelphia Union soccer match vs Mexico City's Club America at Subaru Park in Chester, PA, on Wednesday night, 9/15. The Union lost the CONCAF Cup match 0-2. Cortez was with his 64-year-old father and another 28-year-old friend. They got into an argument with a group of soccer fans wearing yellow Club America jerseys. It escalated when the group of four men attacked Cortez. They punched him, kicked him while on the ground, and may have hit him with a garbage can lid. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His father and friend were taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to be treated for their injuries. They are in stable condition. Police are looking through surveillance video. The male suspects in their 20s got into a white SUV and headed north on Passyunk Ave. In July, a man was shot and killed outside the restaurant during an argument and altercation.

UPDATE: Philadelphia Police have released new surveillance footage of the fight and suspects. It appears that the victims were also fans of Club America. Warning, video is violent.

Many questions still remain in the shooting of 8-year-old Fanta Bility after a football game at Academy Park High School last month. The Sharon Hill Borough Council unanimously voted to appoint former Philadelphia District Attorney Kelley Hodge as a special counsel to lead an independent investigation. Delaware County District Attorney has said that there is a "high probability" that police fired the shots that struck Bility. It happened on August 27 following a game between Academy Park and Pennsbury. Shots rang out as people were leaving the stadium. Officers opened fire on a vehicle they believed had fired on the crowd. The investigation continues.

A man is now charged with murder after he walked into the Upper Darby Police Department on Thursday morning, 9/16, and told police he killed his girlfriend and dumped her body. 23-year-old Freddy Remigio Mendieta Pando of Upper Darby is charged with first-degree murder of 23-year-old Karina Torres of Upper Darby. He entered the police department just before noon and told police of the crime through a translation app. Pando led authorities to the location of the body. He had killed her and dumped the body off of the Schuylkill River Trail in Lower Providence, Montgomery County, near the Betzwood Trailhead. He has been charged in Montgomery County. Pando is being held without bail. Torres did have a Protection From Abuse Order on Pando at the time. The autopsy determined she was stabbed multiples times. The investigation is ongoing.
