Drag racing activity drew a large crowd near Temple University's North Philadelphia campus early Sunday morning, 9/19. It happened around 12:30 a.m. at North Broad and West Oxford Streets. The road was blocked by a large crowd of perhaps hundreds of people. Cars were performing spinouts and donuts in the middle of the intersection. One person was struck by a car and injured. They were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police also reported shots being fired, but no one was hit.

Philadelphia Police have issued arrest warrants and identified two of the suspects wanted in the deadly brawl outside Pat's King of Steaks last week. 34-year-old Osvaldo "Willie" Pedraza and 32-year-old Victor Pedraza (aka Victor Hugo) are charged with murder, attempt to commit murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, simple assault, and other related offenses in the death of 28-year-old Isidro Cortez of Queens, New York. It happened around 2 a.m. on Thursday, 9/16, outside the cheesesteak shop at 9th and Passyunk in South Philadelphia. Cortes' 64-year-old father and a 20-year-old friend were also seriously injured and hospitalized. The men had all attended a soccer match in Chester earlier in the evening and an argument over that may have triggered the attack. It was all caught on surveillance video. If you have any information, call the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334.

UPDATE: One of the suspects, Omar Arce, has turned himself in to police.

The Columbus Monument at Penn's Landing will remain in place after a lawsuit was settled last Tuesday, 9/14. The America 500 Anniversary Corporation and Delaware River Waterfront Corporation "resolved the litigation." The base of the 106-ft tall monument had been covered in June 2020 amid the civil unrest "in an effort to protect public safety" and "reduce continued pain." That covering will now be removed. Last month, a Philadelphia judge ruled that the Christopher Columbus statue in Marconi Plaza on South Broad Street could remain. It is still covered as the City appeal the decision.
