Philadelphia Police are investigating after hundreds of people gathering near City Hall to watch illegal drift racing activity late Saturday night, 10/2. It happened just before Midnight at the intersection of 15th and Market Streets next to Dilworth Plaza. The incident was caught on video and shared via social media. (see below) A large crowd gathered and surrounded the intersection. Several vehicles were shown doing burnouts, donuts, and other stunts inside the intersection. At one point someone was setting off fireworks close to the crowd. Luckily, no one was injured. Police did respond to break up the crowd and reopen the intersection to through traffic. There is some video of people jumping on the hoods of police vehicles. No one was arrested. According to police, this was one of several of such incidents in the city over the weekend.

"What happened last night on streets near City Hall was incredibly and needlessly dangerous. Incidents that pose threats to safety and endanger the public will not be tolerated. We're working with the Police Department to ensure that these reckless incidents do not happen in the future," said Mayor Jim Kenney in a statement.
