Pennsylvania Department of Health Acting Secretary Alison Beam will resign her position and leave the Wolf administration at the end of December. Beam was previously Wolf's Deputy Chief of Staff and was elevated to the role of Health Secretary when Dr. Rachel Levine was nominated by Joe Biden to be Assistant Secretary for Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Beam oversaw the vaccine rollout in the commonwealth over the past 12 months. She also recently saw her state-wide school mask mandate thrown out by the PA Supreme Court. Beam graduated Penn State with a degree in Health Policy Administration and Drexel Law School with a focus on Health Law. Governor Wolf says that he will appoint Department of Health Executive Deputy Secretary Keara Klinepeter to the vacancy.

"I am proud to have worked with Acting Secretary Beam over the past several years, and the commonwealth has been fortunate to have had the benefit of her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic – especially as the Department of Health oversaw a massive vaccine roll-out over the course of the past year," said Gov. Wolf. "Thank you, Acting Secretary Beam, for stepping up to serve the commonwealth during a difficult time. We will miss your leadership, your determination and your dedication to building healthier communities for all Pennsylvanians."

A water main break early Monday morning, 12/13, in Chestnut Hill affected several neighborhoods in Northwest Philadelphia. "The Philadelphia Water Department is responding to a break on a 30-inch water main near the intersection of Cherokee Street and Hartwell Lane," PWD spokesman Brian Rademaekers said. "The break was detected shortly before 5 a.m." Customers in Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy, West Oak Lane, and Roxborough experienced either low pressure or no water. Springside Chestnut Hill Academy closed school for the day because of the break. PWD said that service was restored around 11 a.m.

Two western Pennsylvania teenagers have been arrested and accused of planning a shooting attack on a high school. A 17-year-old from Conemaugh Township and a 16-year-old from Upper Yoder Township were both charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism and aggravated assault. The older teen is also charged with attempted aggravated assault and the younger teen is charged with conspiracy to commit criminal trespass and a firearms count. Police started an investigation last week when they learned that the older teen had been let into Westmont Hilltop High School by the younger teen. The older teen was a former student and had a court order to stay away after threatening to "shoot up" the school. Police found one pump-action rifle and four AR-15-style semi-automatic rifles at the home of the younger teen. The weapons were untraceable "ghost guns" built from parts and without a serial number. "We do not believe that students and staff were in any imminent or immediate danger at any point over the last several days," District Attorney Greg Neugebauer said. "But we do believe that quick action by the school district and law enforcement prevented a tragedy."
