Biden's Free Tests, Philly COVID Test Kits; Arrest in Smoke Shop Shooting; Philly Cop Shot/Injured

The confluence of rising COVID-19 cases and Christmas has many people searching for testing kits to be assured they are safely gathering with family and friends this weekend. President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday, 12/21, that he plans to distribute 500 million free at-home rapid tests to American homes by mail next month. There will be a new website that you can go and request a free test to be delivered. Beginning January 15th, you'll be able to get reimbursed for at-home tests that you purchase.

The Philadelphia Health Department is distributing free testing kits this week. You can pick up the tests in person. The locations are listed below. They are only available to Philadelphia residents.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 22
11 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Lawncrest Library, 6098 Rising Sun Avenue, 19111
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.: MLK Older Adult Center, 2101 Cecil B. Moore Avenue, 19121

THURSDAY, DEC. 23
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.: Waterview Recreation Center, 5826 McMahon Avenue, 19144

Ridley Township Police Department have arrested a man wanted in connection to the shooting of a smoke shop employee last week. 39-year-old Shawn Williams of Chester is charged with homicide in the death of Sameer Adbullah. It happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, 12/17, at Empire Smoke Shop on the 1400 block of Chester Pike in Crum Lynne, Delaware County. Abdullah was shot multiple times and was found behind the counter. Police determined that Williams was a suspect through public leads, two search warrants, and other evidence that connected him to the crime. Police say that Williams confessed to the crime while being questioned. Authorities do not know the motive behind the shooting, but they say it was not robbery.

A Philadelphia Police officer was shot and injured in North Philadelphia on Tuesday night, 12/21. It happened around 10 p.m. on the 1400 block of North Leithgow Street in the Olde Kensington section. The officer was responding to a robbery when he was shot in the shoulder. The 6-year veteran of the force was taken to Temple University Hospital and is in stable condition. Police are still searching for the suspect, who was also shot.

UPDATE: The officer shot in the should has been released from the hospital. The suspect also shot the robbery victim in the leg. While police were chasing the suspect, he shot himself in the head. Two more officers were injured in a crash while transporting the suspect to the hospital.
