The funeral for the 12 victims killed in tragic Fairmount row home fire was held on Monday, 1/17, at the Liacouris Center on the campus of Temple University. Three adults and nine children died in early morning blaze on January 5th on the 800 block of N. 23rd Street. Hundreds gathered to honor the deceased: Dekwan Robinson, Destiny McDonald, Janiyah Roberts, J'Kwan Robinson, Natasha Wayne, Quientien Tate-McDonald, Quinsha White, Rosalee McDonald, Shaniece Wayne, Taniesha Robinson, Tiffany Robinson and Virginia Thomas. Attendees were asked to wear white. Family and friends shared stories of their loved from a stage with all 12 caskets. "None of us know what to do with a funeral with 12 people," said the Reverend Dr. Alyn Waller of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church. "We're in a space of grief and pain we wish on no one else." The family said in a written statement, "There are no words to express the love and gratitude our family holds in our hearts for our community. We are beyond moved by the outpouring of love and support." Investigators believe that the fire started on the 2nd floor of the 3-story duplex when a Christmas tree was set on fire.

This year is the 27th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. It is usually the largest collective day of service in the country with thousands participating in events and activities throughout the region. This year, with the ongoing pandemic, the crowd was smaller at Girard College. Free COVID-19 testing and vaccinations were offered by Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium. The 36th annual national bell-ringing ceremony was held at noon on Monday, 1/17, at the Liberty Bell in Old City. On Sunday, 1/16, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden traveled up from their home in Wilmington, DE, to South Philly. They joined other volunteers at Philabundance and packed boxes of food with fruits and vegetables.

Police in Montgomery County say that a suspect used an Apple AirTag to follow a victim home last Friday evening, 1/14. The victim had gone to the Movie Tavern in Upper Providence Township and then returned home to Lower Providence. When they arrived home, their iPhone received a message that stated "Unknown Accessory Detected – This Item Has Been Moving With You For A While." When the victim went inside their house, they received another message, "Safety Alert, Your Current Location Can Be Seen By The Owner Of This Item. You May Be Carrying This Item, Or It Could Be Located Closely. This Item Is Not Familiar To You, You Can Disable It And Stop Sharing Your Location." Finally then received a map that showed the device was activated near the Movie Tavern at 7:19 p.m. and then traveled with the victim until they returned home at 8:38 p.m. They looked out the window and saw another vehicle. When they approached the vehicle, it slowly drove away. The device then disconnected. Police say if you get a message like this, call 9-1-1 rightaway. The vehicle is described as an older model, light gray or silver hatchback, possibly a Subaru. If you have any information, call the Lower Providence Township Police Department at (610) 539-5901.
