A Good Samaritan and several New Castle County police officers helped save an elderly woman after she became stuck under her car last week. The incident was caught on police body cam. It happened on Wednesday afternoon, 1/19, on Fieldstone Lane. The 70-year-old woman forgot to put her car in park before stepping out of the vehicle. The car rolled up on her trapping her left arm under the front wheel and her legs in the wheel well. Someone called 911 and knocked on the door of neighbor Kyle Stant. He tried to use a jack to free the woman, but it wouldn't lift the car high enough. Five county cops arrived on scene to help. Four officers along with Stant were able to lift the vehicle while the fifth officer pulled the woman free. She suffered a broken hip, several broken ribs and a punctured lung. She is expected to make a full recovery. "Situations like this remind us how when police, fire, paramedics and the community work together, amazing things can be accomplished," said Colonel Joesph Bloch, Chief of the New Castle County Police Department.

A student at Academy Park High School in Delaware County posted a picture of himself in a classroom with an apparent gun on Friday morning, 1/21. (see picture below) The 10th grader also apparently showed the gun to other students. The post prompted calls to police and sent the school into lockdown. Sharon Hill police took the student into custody. The gun turned out to be a BB gun made to look like a Glock handgun. However, the charges will be the same as if he brought in a real firearm. "The good news for everyone in the community is that this incident ended peacefully. The juvenile, who brought what looks to be a firearm to school, has been apprehended," Delaware County District Attorney Stollsteimer said.

Students are returning to Temple University's campus for the first time this semester and will have to get used to several new COVID-19 mitigation requirements. The first 3 weeks of the term have been conducted virtually. First, all students who live in Temple housing will need a negative test within 24-hours before returning, regardless of vaccination status. Second, cloth masks are no longer acceptable. Students must wear a surgical mask, a surgical mask with a cloth mask over it, or a N95/KN95/KF94 mask. Thirdly, Temple is following Philadelphia's vaccine mandate for indoor dining. You will have to have proof of vaccination to eat in dining halls or other areas. Unvaccinated students may be able to get a waiver to eat in dining halls.
