Police in Delaware County responded to 911 calls about a domestic argument on Friday morning, 2/11, and found a man attempting to decapitate his ex-girlfriend. 32-year-old Nicholas Scurria is charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and other related offenses. It happened around 5 a.m. at The Willows Apartments on the 400 block of South Springfield Road in Clifton Heights. Police knocked on the door and didn't get an answer. They went around back and looked in a window. They saw Scurria trying to dismember the body with a large knife. She was already deceased. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. Scurria was taken into custody without incident. The investigation is ongoing.

A man is in custody after he stabbed six family members as they slept early Friday morning, 2/11, in Kensington. It happened around 4:15 a.m. on the 3000 block of North Front Street near Clearfield Street. The 29-year-old suspect used two 7" knives in the attack. "One of the knives, that's all metal, is broken, which goes to show how violently these individuals were being stabbed," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The victims range in age from 26-57. They were in three bedrooms on the second floor. Three are listed in critical condition and three are in stable condition. The suspect was found a few blocks away. "That 29-year-old had blood on his face and body and hands and he had some small lacerations to the inside of his hands, which is common sometimes when somebody is stabbing someone multiple times," Small said. He was identified by the victims. The investigation is ongoing.

A Philadelphia high school teacher is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a student last year. 30-year-old Barbara Corbo is charged with institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of minors. It happened along Kelly Drive on December 11, 2021. The student went to officials at Mercy Career and Technical High School on January 18 and reported the incident. Mercy says they immediately terminated Corbo and contacted authorities. In a letter to parents, Mercy stated, "Ms. Corbo was hired by Mercy Career & Technical High School in August 2021. As part of that process, she submitted clear criminal background checks, child abuse clearances, professional references, and a copy of her Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Professional Certificate. These careful screening practices are standard for all hires." She taught English to eleventh graders and Social Studies to tenth graders. Mercy CTE is a private, Catholic vocational high school located in Hunting Park. It was founded in 1950.
