Supreme Court Draft Opinion on Roe v Wade Leaked; Bear Captured in Delco; Shooting in Chester Store

A draft opinion of a Supreme Court case dealing with a Mississippi abortion ban was leaked and published by Politico on Monday, 5/2. The opinion as written would overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision on abortion rights on a national level. Overturning Roe does not make abortion illegal in the country, it would be up to individual states to set their own laws. Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware currently have laws that would still permit abortions even if the Supreme Court overturns Roe. The final opinion is expected to be announced in June or July, at the end of the session. The leak of a draft opinion is unprecedented. Chief Justice John Roberts has ordered an investigation and called it an "egregious breach of trust." The court usually deliberates in secret and drafts/votes can change before the final opinion is issued. The leak has caused an uproar of emotion and renewed debate on all sides of the issue from online spaces to the streets. A few hundred Pro-Abortion demonstrators gathered at City Hall in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening.

Residents in Delaware County spotted a bear along Darby Creek on Tuesday morning, 5/3. The animal is believed to be the same black bear that was seen in Doylestown, Bucks County, at the end of last week. This time it was in the area of Drexel Hill, Clifton Heights, and Lansdowne along Baltimore Pike. The Pennsylvania Game Commission tried to use a tranquilizer, but the bear got away. They've now set a trap with jelly donuts and hope to be able to capture it that way. They'll relocate the bear up north into the mountains.

UPDATE: The bear was found up a tree on the 2000 block of West Baltimore Pike in Clifton Heights around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Wildlife officials were able to tranquilize the animal and capture it safely.

A man was shot and killed inside a corner store in Chester, Delaware County, on Wednesday morning, 5/4. It happened around 10 a.m. at the KNF Market on the 1100 block of West 3rd Street. A man in his 20s was getting coffee when he got into an argument with another man. That man grabbed the pot and struck the victim in the head. He then pulled out a gun and fired at least once killing the man. Police say the store's surveillance video captured the incident. The investigation in ongoing.

UPDATE: 18-year-old Muhammad McBride has surrendered to police.
