Police Shoot Attacker Inside 39th District; Woman Found Dead in NJ Motel; Gas Station Shooting Video

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a police officer shot a man inside the 39th Police District headquarters after that man attacked officers with a screwdriver on Wednesday, 5/11. It happened after 9:19 a.m. at the police station located on Hunting Park Ave in Tioga/Nicetown. The 23-year-old suspect entered the building wearing a mask and tried to communicate with an officer through the protective glass. The officer could not understand the man and opened up the locked door to the operations room. That is when the suspect lunged at them with a screwdriver. A fight broke out between the suspect and two officers. A third officer opened fire and shot the suspect in the torso. "They attempted to disarm this individual while he was swinging the screwdriver in their direction - this was all within about 30 seconds. Right around that time one of the officers that were in the operations room fired at least one shot at this individual, striking him in the torso," said Philadelphia police spokesman Sgt. Eric Gripp. The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. One officer suffered an injury to their head. The other officer had injuries to their arm and elbow. They were taken to the hospital and have since been treated and released. The 32-year-old female officer who discharged her weapon has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation as with all officer-involved shootings. She is a seven-year veteran of the force.l

Burlington County authorities are investigating after the body of a woman was discovered in a motel room on Wednesday morning, 5/11. Police were called around 11:30 a.m. to the Bel-Air Motor Lodge on the 2800 block of Route 73 in Maple Shade. The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and the Maple Shade Police Department are investigating the death as a homicide. The Medical Examiner's office in conducting an autopsy to determine cause of death. The woman's identity is being withheld until family can be notified. Philadelphia Police have released surveillance video from a deadly shooting at a gas station in East Mount Airy on Monday afternoon, 5/9. It happened at the Liberty gas station on the 1000 block of East Mount Airy Avenue. 30-year-old Brandon Dixon was pumping gas when a two people jumped out of a red car. They opened fire while Dixon ran away. He died later at Einstein Medical Center. The suspects were driving a 2009 red Mazda 3 sedan with New Jersey license plate V62-PWX. They were last seen fleeing West on Mount Airy Ave. No arrest have been made. There is a $20,000 reward for information, call 215.686.TIPS (8477).
