Supreme Court Overturns Roe v. Wade; Charge Dropped Woman Killed Two Troopers; Sean Toomey Suspects

The Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe vs Wade on Friday morning, determining there is no federal constitutional right to abortion. The decision came as part of the court's ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. The court ruled 6-3 to uphold the Mississippi law at the heart of the case and 5-4 to overrule Roe. Individual states will now have to decide to permit, regulate, or prohibit abortion on their own. Many states already have ‘trigger’ laws that automatically go into effect because of this decision. Some states will enact outright bans and other states will allow abortion for any reason up until birth. Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware all have legislation in place that would keep abortion legal.

SEE Full Decision:

A judge dropped a third-degree murder charge against a woman accused of striking and killing two Pennsylvania State Troopers as they helped a third man on I-95 near the stadium complex in March. 22-year-old Jayana Tanae Webb is still charged with DUI, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle, second-degree manslaughter of a law enforcement officer, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, driving under the influence and summary traffic violations, including failing to drive at a safe speed, careless driving and reckless driving. Her bail has been set at $600,000. The Philadelphia District Attorney is refiling the third-degree murder charge.

It happened after midnight on 3/21 near the Broad Street exit. 33-year-old Troopers Martin F. Mack III and 29-year-old Trooper Branden T. Sisca were assisting a man who was walking on the highway. Webb approached the scene in a Chevy Captiva and struck all three at 78 mph while she was trying to going around the scene. The two troopers were killed and 28-year-old Reyes Rivera Oliveras was injured. She was arrested at the scene. Her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at .211. The same two troopers had pulled her over for excessive speeding a few minutes prior, but left her on the side of the road because they got the call for the man on the road. Webb’s defense attorney argued that it was an accident and Webb herself expressed remore.

Two suspects are now in custody in the shooting death of 15-year-old Sean Toomey outside his home in Northeast Philadelphia in March. Philadelphia Police now identify 17-year-olds Daniel Gardee and Saahir Teagle as suspects. Gardee surrendered to police on Wednesday, 6/22, and Teagle is in custody in New Jersey and will be extradicted. It happened on Thursday, March 24, on the 6200 block of Mulberry Street in Wissinoming. The two suspects are accused of trying to carjack a neighbor's vehicle but were unsuccessful. At the same time, Toomey left his house to get a case of water from the family's car. His father John heard two gunshots and went looking for his son when he didn't come back inside. He found Sean lying on the neighbor's lawn. Sean died the next day. Both suspects are charged with murder.
