Eagles Trade Kolb for Cromartie

  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/29/11 8:17 am | updated: 07/29/11 8:17 am

The Philadelphia Eagles are sending quarterback Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for pro bowl cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Eagles coach Reid has already anointed Cromartie the starting right corner, an upgrade the Birds need and gives their defense the biggest boost since Asante Samuel arrived. But what did the Eagles lose? Does the loss of Kevin Kolb leave them too thin at the QB position? Word is, the Eagles have former Titans starter Vince Young in mind as... Read More

Debt Ceiling And You

The possibility that the current $14.3 trillion debt ceiling won't be increased - and the country won't be able to pay all its bills come next week - seems very possible.

The Obama administration says that not raising the debt ceiling, the amount the federal government can legally borrow, could lead to financial collapse here and abroad.
How it may affect you:

If you're a government employee, you might not get paid. If you're a vacationer planning a trip to... Read More

Jon Runyan: Political Prep from Football

  by: Rebel - Havertown, PA

Rep. Jon Runyan, former Philadelphia Eagle and freshman Republican from South Jersey is on Capitol Hill, and has spent 6 1/2 months learning an entirely new game.

According to Runyan, football was great preparation for his new job. Being in the House demands knowledge of the plays (legislative procedure), time management, teamwork - and stamina, to negotiate the miles of corridors and tunnels in the Capitol complex.

Runyan has tried to walk the tightrope between... Read More

The Debt Limit Debate Continues

  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/26/11 7:41 am | updated: 07/26/11 7:41 am

It's in the press every day. Hurriedly prepared speeches break into prime time TV viewing. On one side President Obama wants US debt limits increased substantially. House speaker John Boehner with the backing of Congress and Senate believe spending is out of control and adding more debt is not the answer. When you apply household wisdom, it's hard to side with Obama. As citizens, we are schooled to live within our means. Too much debt, like credit cards, are like quicksand. Borrowing... Read More

Lockout End Gets Eagles Back to the Nest

  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/26/11 7:22 am | updated: 07/26/11 7:22 am

The NFL players and owners finally agreed to terms of a new deal that should keep football going uninterrupted for another 10 years. This is good news because Birds fans have been growing increasingly disgusted hearing about the business side of the game. Eagles fans resent both sides of an argument between millionaires and billionaires when it interferes with football. Hopefully the damage is minimal and the Eagles can get a lot done in just a few days. Training camp is shortened. The... Read More

$1.2 million has been paid out from the city's cash-poor pension fund in benefits to felons since 1999. The fund, has less than 50 percent of the assets needed to pay projected benefits.

These felons are former Philadelphia police officers guilty of sexual encounters with minors, extortion conspiracy, and patronizing prostitutes.

The rules surrounding pension disqualification are complicated.

Under the city retirement code, you forfeit your... Read More
