Surcharge Now in Effect on all Taxis in City

Philadelphia Parking Authority approved a $1 temporary surcharge for all taxi rides starting earlier this morning at 12 am. The Unified Taxi Workers Alliance of PA had requested the surcharge to help offset the rising costs of gas. This surcharge will remain in effect for at least 90 days, and will be removed once fuel prices drop below $3.75 for 10 days straight afterward.

Haverford Township, PA - Music lovers in Haverford Township have convinced officials that a day filled with live music, food, and fun would be a good thing for the community. Set for Saturday September 17, 2011, the first Haverford Music Festival will take place in the heart of Havertown on 2 main stages. There's a brand new American Idol, and it's 17 year old Scotty McCreery from Garner, North Carolina. The other finalist, 16 year old Lauren Alaina is from Rossville, Ga. It's the first time that the finals have come down to two singers both rooted squarely in the country genre. It's the second time, after Jordin Sparks, that a 17-year-old has won. House Of Blues and a New Rock Club Coming To Philly

Two more live music venues may be opening in Philadelphia as soon as this Fall. A 'new rock' club targeting up and coming bands, Union Transfer promises to be an 800 patron capacity club located on Spring Garden Street at the former Spaghetti Warehouse. If all goes well with their Liquor Control Board application, the new rock club will open on the site in the fall.

Philly Republican Mayor Race leaning towards a Karen Brown win

It's been a week since the primary elections ended, and it seems that former school teacher Karen Brown will end up with the GOP nomination for mayor to run against incumbent Democrat Michael Nutter.

She holds a very tight 58 vote lead over John Featherman after city officials completed the latest tally of votes that included absentee ballots. Around 16,500 votes were cast in the GOP primary.

Harold Camping is an owner of radio stations and a prominent figure in the broadcast industry.
His blown prediction and continued predictions are a real embarrassment to many in the Christian radio community, who are not saying much.

Camping is still predicting that the world is really going to end on October 21, and as far as he's concerned, Judgment Day did occur on May 21. But God decided not to make people suffer through the next five months.
