One of two Delaware County brothers has been sentenced in connection to a 2018 arson fire in Old City that destroyed several businesses and residences. In February, Imad and Bahaa Dawara pled guilty to conspiracy to commit arson and conspiracy to defraud the United States. 40-year-old Imad was sentenced to nine years in prison on Tuesday, 6/22. 32-year-old Bahaa will be sentenced on Thursday.

The fire happened on February 18, 2018, on the 200 block of Chestnut Street. Authorities say that it was intentionally set using gasoline in the basement. 160 people were displaced and several businesses were affected. Two historic mid-rise buildings were completely gutted. Chestnut Street was closed for months as demolition was underway, hurting other businesses down the block. The brothers owned a hookah lounge business in the building. The landlord told them on February 2, 2018, they had to vacate the building because they were $64,000 behind on rent. The brothers then went and took out a $750,000 insurance policy before setting the building on fire. It caused $20 million in damage. Luckily no one was killed.

Philadelphia Health Officials said that the city now has 70% of adults with at least one dose of the vaccine. The city has reached that milestone a few weeks ahead of President Joe Biden's July 4th goal. However, the White House has conceded the fact that the country as a whole will not reach that goal. Young adults are trailing older demographics in receiving the vaccine. The Biden administration expects that 70% of those 27 and older will have had at least one shot by July 4. They hope to focus outreach efforts on those ages 18-26.

The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 in favor of a Schuylkill County, PA, teen in a first amendment case over how and when school's can regulate off-campus speech including on social media. Then 14-year-old Brandi Levy posted a vulgar message on Snapchat venting frustration after not making the varsity cheerleading team. She said, "F school, F cheer, F softball, F everything." The school then suspended her for a year from the junior varsity team. The justices ruled that schools' ability to regulate students' speech off-campus is limited. Lower court rulings went so far as to completely ban school's authority outside the schoolhouse gate, but the Supreme Court's decision allowed room for schools to get involved in certain situations like cyberbullying, cheating, threats to teachers/students. Levy is now 18-years-old and finished her first year of college.

"We do not believe the special characteristics that give schools additional license to regulate student speech always disappear when a school regulates speech that takes place off campus. The school's regulatory interests remain significant in some off-campus circumstances," wrote Justice Stephen Bryer. "We hesitate to determine precisely which of many school-related off-campus activities belong on such a list. Thus, we do not now set forth a broad, highly general First Amendment rule stating just what counts as 'off campus' speech and whether or how ordinary First Amendment standards must give way off campus to a school's special need to prevent, e.g., substantial disruption of learning-related activities."

Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Dylan Cozens announced on Tuesday, 6/22, that he is retiring from Major League Baseball to pursue a career in the NFL. 27-year-old Cozens is 6' 6” and 245 pounds. He had a scholarship to play football at the University of Arizona, but instead signed with the Phillies after being drafted in 2012. Cozens also spent time in the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers systems.
