Homeless Victim of a Face Eating Miami Man Fights for His Life

Police officers came across a grisly scene Saturday afternoon when they were alerted by a witness. 31 year old Rudy Eugene was eating the face off of 65 year old homeless man Ronald Poppo on a busy Miami highway ramp. Both men were naked and covered in blood. The assailant allegedly growled when officers told him to stop and continued eating the man's face even after shots were fired at him. Eugene was eventually killed by police officers.

Poppo lost over 75% of his face, which was barely recognizable as a face at all. He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

It is unclear why Poppo was attacked by Eugene. There is speculation that Eugene was high on bath salts and may have been hallucinating. Sale and possession of bath salts has been outlawed in over 20 states including Pennsylvania.

Details are not yet being released regarding the shooting or the autopsy.
