Firefly Festival in Dover Delaware

This past weekend I attended the first ever Firefly Music Festival in Dover Delaware. The festival included headliners Jack White, The Killers, and The Black Keys all of whom gave excellent performances. Jack White engaged the audience by performing some of hits from his older bands but focused on his new album Blunderbuss as well. He ended his set with Seven Nation Army. All weekend people were singing that song as they left the venue.

The Killers' performance created a sense of unity. Everyone knew the words to their songs and were dancing and singing along. Some audience members dressed up, handed out glow sticks, and held up strange objects including a stuffed octopus and a blow up banana. They played new songs as well as some of their popular older ones. They were one of the few bands who gave an encore performance that ended with "When You Were Young" and fireworks that shot up from both sides of the stage.

The Black Keys wrapped up the weekend well with their performance. They sounded excellent live and people enjoyed hearing them play and sang along with some of their songs as well.

The festival also included popular bands CAKE, Silversun Pickups, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Flaming Lips among others. Passion Pit cancelled their tour at the last minute so they were replaced by Yeasayer who gave an impressive performance.

Although the festival was lacking organization, the venue itself was beautiful. There were four stages, a hammock hangout, and lights in the trees. Overall it was a positive experience with good music and interested people. Hopefully they will hold another festival next year!
