Snoop Dogg changes name to Snoop Lion; Set to release reggae album

Snoop Dogg has dropped the latter half of his name, and along with it, and his music style - in favor of reggae. After spending time in Jamaica, Snoop says that he has found his Rastafarian calling. While there, he met with a High Priest who told him “You are the light; you are the lion.” Snoop says that this meeting is what connected all the dots for him, allowing him to understand why he was there.

Snoop Lion has been working with producer Diplo to create his most recent album Reincarnated, a nod to his new image, where he refers to himself as “Bob Marley reincarnated.” When questioned about this claim by Snoop Lion, Rohan Marley, Bob Marley’s son, seems to be okay with it, responding that “music is universal.” Wishing to bury his rap past, this album is reggae only. “La La La” is the first single to be released from the album and is currently available on iTunes.

The new direction seems to be multi-faceted for Snoop Lion. "I've always wanted to perform for kids and my grandmother, people around the world who really love me and can't really accept the music that I make. This reggae music is music of love -- happiness and sadness.” This represents a complete turnaround for a man considered a top rap performer and associated at one point with N.W.A.
