Last night a bomb threat was received targeting the popular Trocodero Theater at 10th and Arch in Chinatown. An anonymous, threatening email was sent to news outlets at around 5:40 pm. Police and a bomb sniffing dog searched the area and the theater but did not find anything suspicious leading authorities to believe it was a hoax. They cleared the area at 7pm. The threat read in part, "Not only is bomb there now i have weapons there that i will use to cause mass destruction tonight. good luck. you will need it." The email was sent through an anonymous email provider that does not track personal information about its users or IP addresses, but Philadelphia Police plan to pursue the investigation. Last night's show starting at 8pm featured four area thrash-metal bands.

A large Philadelphia memorial service was planned two weeks ago for Sherman Hemsley, who passed away on July 24 from lung cancer, but it was abuptly canceled at the last minute. Hemsley, a Philadelphia native, is best known for portraying George Jefferson on the TV sitcoms All in the Family and The Jeffersons. The memorial was being planned by his Philadelphia relatives, including Richard Thornton, who claims to be his brother. Thornton is disputing Hemsley's will which was signed just 6 weeks before his passing. It names longtime friend and "beloved partner," Flora Enchinton, as sole beneficiary of his estate, worth around $50,000. Enchinton claims Hemsley never talked about any family in their 20 years together. The case will go before a judge in El Paso, but no court date is set. In the meantime, Hemsley's body will remain in refrigeration.
