A lifeguard was killed and 7 others injured by a lightning strike in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, NJ, on Monday afternoon, 8/30. It happened around 4:35 p.m. at the 21st Avenue Beach in South Seaside Park near Island Beach State Park. Four lifeguards and four beachgoers were "either struck or were injured by the residual lightning strike" according to the Berkeley Township Police. 19-year-old lifeguard Keith Pinto of Toms River was killed by the strike. The others suffered non life-threatening injuries. Witnesses describe the conditions as still clear when the strike came from a quickly developing storm. Pinto is the second young NJ lifeguard to be killed in the past two weeks. He's the ninth person to died from lightning in the US this year.

There have been new developments in the deadly shooting investigation outside a high school football game last Friday night in Sharon Hill. It happened just after a game between Pennsbury and Academy Park in Sharon Hill. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer says that no one is in custody. Initial reports were that three people were taken into custody after the shooting. 8-year-old Fanta Bility was shot and killed. Her 13-year-old sister and a teenage boy were injured. Bility was initially described as 7-years-old. The Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation, but have been joined by federal agents including the ATF. Sharon Hill police officers also discharged their weapons during the incident and that is being investigated. If you have information, call 610-891-8030.
