Two teen girls were struck by a beach patrol vehicle while lying on the beach in Ship Bottom on Saturday, 5/2. It happened on the 26th Street Beach around 1p.m. The girls, 14 and 15, were airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center with lower body injuries, but have since been released to their families. 22-year-old John Purdon of Barnegat, NJ, was driving the vehicle at the time. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced on Friday, May 1, that 24 counties in the northwestern and north-central regions of the state will begin to reopen next Friday, May 8. Those areas will move from the 'red' phase to the 'yellow' phase in Wolf's three-phase COVID-19 reopening plan. The Little League World Series has been canceled for the first time in almost 75 years due to coronavirus COVID-19. The annual youth baseball tournament is held in August in Williamsport, PA. A South Jersey man has pled guilty to shooting his neighbor's therapy dog in the head with an air rifle last year in Burlington County. 64-year-old William Stroemel, aka Wild Willie, of Maple Shade pled guilty to possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and animal cruelty. He faces 5 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 29 as part of the plea deal. Toby, a Pomeranian-poodle mix, escaped from the owner's yard on September 17, 2019. Philadelphia officials announced that it will begin to phase out the field hospital that was built inside the Liacouras Center as a coronavirus COVID-19 surge facility. There are only 5 patients currently at the facility. It will close as soon as those last patients are discharged, most likely by next week.
