Seven Big East Conference schools that don't play FBS football are leaving to create their own conference focused on basketball. The seven basketball schools leaving are: Villanova, Georgetown, St. John's, DePaul, Marquette, Seton Hall and Providence. This story is still evolving but a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, CT has left 28 people dead. Most of the victims are school children. The school principal, school psychologist, and the gunman are also dead. Another teacher was wounded and being treated at the hospital. This is one of the worst mass shootings in United States history.

Police released the photos of the two brother suspected in the shooting on a SEPTA train. The incident happened after the 76ers-Bulls game on the Market Frankford El Train. An argument started on the train and after the boys left the train, one pulled a gun and fired into the train, hitting two victims.

Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth was in town to play with with Howlin' Rain's John Moloney at Space 1026, on Arch Street near 10th in Chinatown. While he was at the hotel bar at the Best Western on 22nd Street near Hamilton, Moore noticed his guitar missing from his luggage at around midnight Thursday. One of the 37 Philadelphia schools slated to close, Germantown High, is the alma mater of Comedian Bill Cosby and boxer Bernard Hopkins. Germantown was preparing for its 100 year anniversary in 2015. Instead they will prepare to close and transfer students next year. The reorganization of Elementary, Middle and High Schools has the support of Mayor Nutter and must be approved by the School Reform Commission.

The third annual Parade of Lights is tomorrow on the Delaware River. It features a showcase of commercial, community and private boats decorated with holiday lights. The Independence Seaport Museum sponsors the event. Boats parade up and down the Delaware at Penn's Landing right in front of the museum and the museum will open its balcony to visitors who will be offered whistles to signal their votes for the best decorated ship in the parade.
