Philadelphia School Budget Short Another $35 Million |

At a press briefing Wednesday, Philadelphia School District Chief Financial Officer Michael Masch said that the school system must plan on an additional $35 million in cuts.
The district was hoping for $57 million in reimbursements for charter school costs, but the state has refused them. The district receive $22 million more than expected thanks to an Accountability Block Grant, but not enough, bringing the new gap to $35 million on top of the $629 million gap announced this... NJ Gov. Christie nationalized his victory on pensions and health benefits on NBC's Meet the Press this week, saying President Obama's Washington should model itself on Christie's New Jersey.
Christie said Obama needed to deal directly with congressional leaders, just as Christie sat with Democratic legislative leaders to hammer out an agreement that forces public workers to pay more for pensions and health benefits.

Under legislation that received final House passage on Wednesday, bars and restaurants will get more flexibility to schedule the times they sell cheap drinks each week.
Bars would still have to comply with the total 14-hour-a-week happy-hour limit, but the bill increases the happy-hour period from two hours to four hours a day.

The explosion of 20- and 30-somethings is changing the look of Philadelphia. New census figures document the youth movement:
Northern Liberties had dramatic growth in the number of people in their 20s and 30s, up 77 percent in 10 years.
The neighborhood with the largest percentage of young adults in Philadelphia, is Manayunk. Today, 59 percent of residents there are in their 20s or 30s, up from 43 percent in 2000.

Ryan Dunn was Legally Drunk While Driving |

Toxicology results released Wednesday showed Ryan Dunn had a blood alcohol level of 0.196, well over the state's limit of .08. Dunn and his passenger, Zach Hartwell, were out drinking at Barnaby's in West Chester prior to the crash, although most reports were that he seemed ok when he left. The combination of Dunn's level of intoxication and the fact that he was driving at 130 mph were obvious contributing factors to this horrific crash.

"Jackass" star, Ryan Dunn, 34, and his passenger, Zachary Hartwell, 30, were killed at 2:30 am Monday morning when his Porsche 911 GT3 crashed over a guardrail, flew 40 yards through the woods, slammed into a tree and exploded into flames. This happened along Rt. 322 in West Goshen, PA. The police report states, "Preliminary investigation revealed that speed may have been a contributing factor to the accident."

Warnings on Cigarettes To Turn Graphic |

Nine new warning labels featuring graphic images that convey the dangers of smoking will be required by the Food and Drug Administration to be on U.S. cigarette packs by 2012. The new warnings will occupy the top half the space on both sides of the pack. The warnings feature pictures of rotting teeth, diseased lungs and a corpse of a smoker. Philadelphia, the fifth-largest U.S. city is ranked only 13th for attracting international visitors, according to a recent tourism survey. Philly is beat out by New York , Los Angeles, Orlando, Las Vegas as well as Boston, San Diego, and Atlanta.
The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau is determined to crack the Top 10 by pushing what Philadelphia isn't:

The picket line is down at Amoroso's West Philly bakery, according to Teamsters Local 463 President Bob Ryder .
Drivers will be back to work tonight, pending talks in federal court tomorrow, after Amoroso's sought a federal court injunction barring pickets from stopping trucks.
