5th Walla Fest This Sunday + Interview With the Founders on Saturday at 7pm on BYO

The first Walla Fest took place almost one year ago when three students, upset that their school no longer held an art festival, decided to take matters into their own hands. Yesenia, Ant Bui, and Keba, decided to organize an event that would showcase musical and artistic ability. The name, Walla, comes from a conversation Keba had with her father. Over the course of organizing the first event, it came to light that “walla” is what people on movie sets say when directors want it to sound like a group of people are talking. The name is quite fitting, as one of the aims of Walla Fest is to bring the music and art community together and make “noise”. Under the mentorship of one of their high school’s teachers, these three students have held not just one, but four Walla Fests already over the course of the year.

Despite the fact that all three of the founders have graduated from high school, they still plan on organizing multiple Walla Fests throughout the year. In fact, they see moving to New York and Chicago as an opportunity to make Walla Fest into something bigger.

This Sunday, The Center Theater in Norristown will play host to the 5th Walla Fest. Doors will open at a 6pm for the art show, which will be located on the 1st floor. Bands will begin to play at 7pm on the 4th floor. Admission is $5 or $10 for admission + Walla CD.
