Dave Brubeck, a jazz legend, passed away today, missing his 92nd birthday by a day. He passed away due to heart failure in Connecticut. He began playing classical piano at a young age, finding jazz during college. He switched his studies from veterinary medicine to music and went on to become the jazz great we know today.

His career as a jazz pianist and composer was exceptional, winning him numerous awards including “Living Legend” from the Library of Congress and Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Some of his best known works include “Take Five” and “Blue Rondo a la Turk”. His 1959 album “Time Out” was the first jazz album to go platinum-certified selling over a million copies.

Brubeck was a trendsetter in numerous way by changing up time signatures, integrating classical forms and ideas into his compositions, and constantly pushing the boundaries of jazz music by working with other art forms like dance and theater. Additionally, he is known for crossing racial lines in the 1950's by playing black jazz clubs in the South.

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
