Philadelphia Gun Buyback Program This Saturday in South Philly |

The Philadelphia Police will hold their first gun buyback of 2012 on Saturday, March 30th in South Philly. Police will be teaming up with volunteers from Philadelphia Safety Net and Brown's ShopRites to conduct the guns-for-food-vouchers swap.

Another security incident at Philadelphia International airport yesterday. First fireworks, then a Chester County man tried to get on a US Airways flight with a loaded, unregistered 25 mm hand gun. He was stopped at the security check where he showed a permit to carry. However that doesn't entitle him to carry on a commercial flight. He is being charged with reckless endangerment and other charges.

Members of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission voted to close eight of the schools recommended in the District's Facilities Master Plan Thursday night.
The schools are Harrison Elementary School, George Pepper Middle School, Fitzsimons High School, Philadelphia High School for Business and Technology, Rhodes High School, Sheridan West Academy, Charles R. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played to a sold out crowd last night at the Wells Fargo Center for the second of two shows in South Philly. The band has grown to 17 members for this tour including two gospel singers, a percussionist and a 5 man horn section. Clarence Clemmons' nephew Jake Clemmons is on saxophone.

Jerry Sandusky Trial Postponed to June 5. |

The judge overseeing the Jerry Sandusky case has delayed trial by three weeks. Judge John Cleland agreed to postpone the trial from mid-May to June 5. His decision came in response to a group of motions filed a week ago by Sandusky. The 68-year-old retired defensive coordinator faces 52 counts involving 10 alleged victims over 15 years. He's confined to his home to await trial, and denies the allegations.

So far in the past months the rampant car vandalism has been isolated in the Northeast, however, this morning about two dozen cars were discovered damaged in the Overbrook neighborhood of West Philly. Police believe the vandalism has become the work of a number of copycats.

Philadelphia airport police have arrested a 29 year old man from Dallas PA who tried to go through security carrying some form of explosives this morning. The arrest happened at Terminal D. He was carrying a small amount of fireworks in his backpack and claims he forgot they were there.

Negotiating teams for both SEPTA and the union representing transit cops met on Wednesday, but so far no agreement has been reached. The members of the Fraternal Order of Transit Police walked off the job last Wednesday. The union contends the issue is a difference of $200,000, or 50 cents more per hour for the officers who receive certain certification.
