Philadelphia Police are now investigating after a woman was found dead inside of a minivan at a strip mall in Northeast Philadelphia. The van was found with a cloth outside the window, which usually indicates an abandoned car. Upon further investigation, a body was found inside. The body was found by two pedestrians on their way to work. The 53-year-old victim may have been living in the van, she was found frozen, but officials are unsure if the extreme cold was the cause of death.... Read More |

Longtime defense and civil rights attorney, Larry Krasner, was sworn in today as Philadelphia's new District Attorney. He took his oath of office on Tuesday in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center. Krasner has promised to make changes in the justice system. Specifically he looks to reform and eventually eliminate the cash bail system, reduce mass incarceration, stop seeking the death penalty, and provide treatment for addicts. Tuesday is the inauguration day for the new District Attorney elect in Philadelphia. Larry Krasner will take the oath of office on Tuesday morning at the Kimmel Center in Center City Philadelphia. Krasner is a long time civil rights attorney. He will be succeeding former DA Seth Williams who resigned from office in June after he plead guilty to corruption charges and is currently serving a 5 year prison sentence. A University of Pennsylvania student and his family were on the charter flight that crashed in Costa Rica on Sunday. The crash killed 10 US citizens and 2 local crew. William Steinberg was a freshman at Penn. He was on the plane with his parents, Bruce and Irene Steinberg, and brothers, Matthew and Zachary. They are from Scarsdale, NY. A missing man from Philadelphia with dementia has now been located. 66-year-old Edward Sojourner was found on Sunday after he had wandered off from the VA Medical Center on the 3900 block of Woodland Avenue. Officials say that the he left the medical center at around 10:40 pm on Saturday. Family and medical officials were worried due to Sojourner's condition as well as the freezing temperatures. He is now reportedly home and safe with his family.

The Philadelphia Mummers Parade 2018 WILL be held on Monday, January 1st, despite the forecast of extreme cold temperatures. Throughout the week officials had been weighing the possibility of postponing the annual New Year's Day tradition. Philadelphia will end the year with the most homicides since 2012. As of Thursday, there have been 314 people killed in the city. That is 13% higher than 2016. There were 331 homicides in 2012. Phoenixville Police are searching for a group of suspects wanted in the shooting death of a teenager outside of a Dunkin' Donuts on Wednesday night in an apparent drug deal gone bad. Officials have identified 15-year-old Jayson Ortiz-Cameron as the shooting victim.
