Mayor Nutter says it will be months before the city knows the economic impact of the Pope's visit. Many local businesses believe shutting down the city cost them more than visitor spending could make up for. Local restaurateurs took the mayor to task for scaring residents away with overly-extensive road closures and one suggested that, perhaps because of the religious nature of the event, the estimated 850-thousand visitors did not do much for the local economy .

Papelbon Suspended Rest of Season; Nutter and Chaput Happy With Papal Visit; Kane Remains AG

Former Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon will sit out the rest of the season. The Washington Nationals announced they have suspended Papelbon for four games without pay for his role in a dugout incident during which he choked teammate and National League MVP front-runner Bryce Harper. The team suspension will kick in on Thursday after Papelbon first serves a three-game suspension that was levied by MLB.

Now that the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims are making their journey back home following the papal visit, the rush is on to get Philadelphia cleaned up and back to normal. The State Police were moving in formation marching down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the applause of a grateful crowd. The work has started and will likely last for days, but so many came from so far away and are now leaving with a lifetime memory.

The city of Philadelphia is relocating homeless people in Center City in preparation of the Papal visit. If you walk past Love Park or many other areas in center city, one of the things that is noticeably missing is the presence of the homeless people who frequent those places. Federal authorities in Philadelphia announced that over 360 lbs of cocaine were discovered last week in a shipment of pumpkins and squash from Costa Rica. The street value of the drugs is around $6 million. Thin packages containing the powder were laminated inside the boxes of fruit. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers confiscated it all.
