A Philadelphia Police officer is facing charges after he used a fake name and birthday when attempting to surrender three handguns at a police station. 28-year-old Sgt. Brandon Ruff went to the 35th Police District headquarters on August 3rd, 2014 in civilian clothes and carrying a bag containing three handguns. SEPTA police are investigating an attack on a city trolley that was caught on video and posted on social media. It happened on the Route 10 trolley at 11:23 pm Saturday night on its way westward into West Philadelphia. The video shows a group of young people, male and female, involved in an assault. A 2-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she fell from a second story window at her home in North Philadelphia. It happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday at a home along the 2100 block of Gratz Street. Police say the girl was conscious and talking after the fall. She was taken to Hahnemann Hospital in stable condition.

A man has been charged in the murder of a North Philadelphia woman, shot execution style while waiting for the SEPTA bus in the morning on her the way to work. 36-year-old Randolph Sanders is accused of killing 56-year-old Kim Jones. Sources say that Sanders confessed to shooting his co-worker Jones in the back of the head at around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday January 13th at 12th and Jefferson Streets near the campus of Temple University. A Bensalem Police detective collapsed and died suddenly while running a 5k race in Northeast Philadelphia on Saturday. 42-year-old Bensalem Police Detective Kevin Cornish was participating in the 19154 5K in the Parkwood neighborhood when he fell near Academy and Torrey roads shortly after the 9 a.m. start. Philadelphia has a new ride sharing service operating in the city limits. Lyft starting running rides in Philly at 6 p.m. on Friday. The service is like Uber where customers can hire a ride using a mobile app and get the closest driver who uses their own car to provide the service. Former Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord plans to plead guilty to federal charges related to an investigation into campaign contributions. McCord announced on Thursday that he was resigning from his position after six years in office. The 23rd annual Wing Bowl took place this morning in Philadelphia. It was a celebration of gluttony as the eating competition, complete with scantily clad wing-ette servers piled food in front of contestants who rode in on floats, some decked out in togas or maybe just their underwear. President Barack Obama spoke for about 20 minutes giving House Democrats a pep talk and setting the agenda for the year to come. A US Attorney has charged a Philadelphia doctor and his receptionist with running a 'pill mill' out of his offices in Philadelphia and Levittown. William O'Brien III, 49, a doctor of osteopathic medicine and his receptionist, 29-year-old Angela Rongione have been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.
