Hollywood, family, friends and fans around the world are mourning the loss of Joan Rivers. She passed away today after going into cardiac arrest on August 28th. Joan Rivers first appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1965 and was an immediate hit. A rarity at the time, there were very few female comedians. Joan Rivers was 81 years old.

A boy who had filed a lawsuit over getting kicked off his high school girls’ field hockey team has dropped his suit. Joshua Schwartz had been playing on the Quakertown Community High School team, but 2 weeks ago the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association ruled boys are not allowed to play on girls’ teams. Wednesday night, more than 1,000 people attended a candlelight vigil at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, Atlantic County, mourning the loss of a dedicated student athlete whose life was cut short after a car crash. Today, in the case against Christina Regusters, who is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 5-year-old West Philadelphia girl, the judge declared a statement she gave to Philadelphia Police inadmissible because she was not given proper Miranda warnings. There is a warning out in South Jersey about a credit scam that starts with a text message on your cell phone. The message says your bank account has been hacked. The message says it is from Members 1st Credit Union, but it is not. Members 1st alerted their customers of the scam and advised people NOT to reply to the text message.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will be honored by Bryn Mawr College for her trailblazing legal career. Sotomayor will receive the 2015 Katharine Hepburn Medal, given to women who embody "the intelligence, drive and independence" of the Oscar-winning actress. Hepburn was a 1928 graduate of Bryn Mawr. The Wayne County Disctrict Attorney says that a 15-year-old girl from Westchester, New York was the driver of the SUV involved in a fatal crash over the weekend that killed three boys from Bucks County. The crash happened on Saturday morning August 30th near Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos. The 2001 Chevy Suburban had belonged to the girl's parents and she had taken it without their permission. After just two years since it opened, the Revel Casino has closed. The $2.4 billion casino closed at 6 this morning following the closure of the Revel hotel on Monday. Three casinos planned to shut down this Fall. The Showboat closed on Sunday and Trump Plaza will close for good on September 16th. The future for all these deserted properties, and for the economy in Atlantic City, remains uncertain.
