Philadelphia's Taney Dragons were eliminated from the Little League World Series last night. Disappointed? Sure. However, these young Taney Dragons lit a fire in Philadelphia and across the country that inspired and engaged all of us. Freckle-faced and pony tailed athletes from a rural Philadelphia neighborhood demonstrated just how much a unified group can do together. These kids are heroes and deserve a celebration.

Chicago ended Taney's Little League World Series run with a 6-5 defeat Thursday night. The final result wasn't a foregone conclusion, despite the fatigued Dragons playing on consecutive days, without their star pitcher, Davis, on the mound against a loaded - and rested - Chicago team. Chicago, or Jackie Robinson West, will advance to the United States Championship game on Saturday against Mountain Ridge of Las Vegas, the team that owns victories over both Taney and Chicago.

The trial of 21-year-old daycare worker Christina Regusters was set to begin today but was delayed until next week after two jurors dropped out and to allow the defense to go over new evidence. Regusters is accused a kidnapping a 5-year-old Philadelphia girl from her classroom and sexually assaulting her. A teenage boy detonated an explosive device last night in a take-out restaurant in the Francisville section. Video of the explosion shows the black male enter the Oriental Kitchen at 919 North 18th, place the device in an access panel on the wall and run out. Little League World Series, Las Vegas proved to be a little too tough for Taney, winning 8-1 Wednesday night. The loss drops Taney into the Little League World Series loser's bracket, where they'll be playing for their season against Chicago Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., while Nevada advances to the U.S. Championship game on Saturday. Six people were hospitalized in a crash involving an ambulance carrying a patient this morning in East Mount Airy. It happened just after 8:30 a.m. at Chew Avenue and Washington Lane. The ambulance was approaching the intersection with its lights and siren on when a SUV pulled around a red Chevrolet and into the path of the ambulance. Mo'Ne Davis, the 13 year old girl pitcher from Philadelphia playing in the Little League World Series is on the cover of Sports Illustrated. This is the first time a Little Leaguer has been on the magazine's cover. Mo'Ne and the Taney Dragons battle an offensive powerhouse tonight from Las Vegas in a semi-final matchup in Williamsport. One person is dead and two people were injured following a serious accident Tuesday night at Huntingdon Pike and Spur Road in Lower Moreland. One person suffered serious injuries, and the second person suffered non-life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation. There is no word on the victim's identity or the cause of the crash.

One person was rescued after their SUV went off the roadway and plunged into Cobbs Creek this afternoon in Southwest Philadelphia. It happened this afternoon around 3:15 pm near Cobbs Creek Parkway and Greenway Avenue. The woman driver veered off the roadway, perhaps suffering a medical emergency, and plunged into the creek below.
