Blue Route Fatality, Lynn Conviction Overturned, South Philly Shootings Decline |

A fatal accident shut down the Blue Route early this morning. The wreck on the Southbound side of 476 near St. Davids and Villanova happened at about 2 am ejecting one person from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The Blue Route re-opened after a 5 hour closure at about 7:30 this morning.

A chain-reaction crash involving dozens of vehicles Thursday morning shut down a portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 78. The snowy, messy scene was about 50 miles west of Philadelphia between the Morgantown and Reading exits in Berks County. The Pennsylvania Turnpike westbound was closed between Exit 298/Morgantown (I-176) and Exit 286/Lancaster/Reading (US-222) in Lancaster for about eight hours.

A Pennsylvania appeals court has overturned a landmark conviction against a high ranking Archdiocese of Philadelphia church official today. Monsignor William Lynn was found guilty of felony child endangerment in June 2012 for his role in handling child sex abuse allegations brought against priests in the Archdiocese. Delaney Brown, the eight year old West Reading girl with leukemia has died. Laney passed away quietly on Christmas morning with her family by her side. This past Saturday she received her Christmas wish when thousands of people came out to sing carols to her. Before she died Delaney also got to do a video chat with Taylor Swift.

Holiday shoppers were out at the last minute today all around the Delaware Valley. The Italian market was a popular venue as locals stocked up on antipasto, pastries, and fish for the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes. Bakeries were also doing brisk business serving fresh pies, bread and other baked good to customers for holiday meals. It will be a wet Christmas in Frankford thanks to a water main break at Frankford and Torresdale Avenues. The break dumped 23 million gallons of water into the streets and neighboring businesses. Repairs are expected to take months, but there were no injuries, the leak has been fixed and water pressure has been restored this Christmas Eve to local residents and businesses.

A slowdown brought on by the rapid proliferation of casino gambling in the northeastern United States claimed its first victim in New Jersey on Monday when a federal bankruptcy judge approved the sale and shutdown of Atlantic City’s Atlantic Club Casino Hotel. A massive water main break flooded areas of Frankford this morning causing many delays, evacuations, and closures. A 48-inch water main broke shortly before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Frankford and Torresdale Avenues. Water came rushing into the area flooding out area business and streets. A 30-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday night in North Philadelphia. The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. on the 1900 block of North Woodstock Street. The victim was reportedly shot twice in his back, then taken to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made.
